The pattern of feelings toward NDP leaders over the same time period was very different. Beginning with T.C. Douglas in 1968 and continuing on through the leadership of Jack Layton (2004–11), NDP leaders consistently were more popular than their party. Although feelings about both party and leader declined to below the 50 mark under Audrey McLaughlin in 1993 and again under Alexa McDonough (1997–2000), these leaders too remained more popular than their party. In 2015, however, feelings about the NDP and its leader Thomas Mulcair converged, producing a pattern very similar to feelings about Justin Trudeau and the Liberals (see Figures 5.1 and 5.2).
